SPbU and the Universidade Federal do Maranhão sign a framework agreement

The ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement with the Universidade Federal do Maranhão (Brazil) took place in remote format with the participation of Sergey Andryushin, Deputy Rector for International Affairs, St Petersburg University.

The Universidade Federal do Maranhão was represented at the meeting by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Roberto Carvalho Veloso and Associate Professor Meryl Thiel.

The event was also attended by research associates from the Laboratory of Asian Economic Studies, St Petersburg University: Professor Sergei Belozerov, Head of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance at St Petersburg University; and Associate Professor Elena Sokolovskaia.

In order to develop mutually beneficial productive cooperation, we have identified promising areas for further work. They include the implementation of joint research projects, academic mobility programmes, and the exchange of bibliographical and other materials of mutual interest – said Sergey Andryushin, Deputy Rector for International Affairs of St Petersburg University.

Additionally, it was planned to conduct joint academic and scientific conferences, courses, workshops, symposia, and lectures. During the negotiations, agreements were reached on the participation of academic staff of the Universidade Federal do Maranhão in the activities of St Petersburg University in the field of ‘Economics’. The meeting attendees expressed confidence that the interaction of the universities will lead to the development of relations between Russia and Brazil within BRICS.

The Universidade Federal do Maranhão (UFMA) was founded in 1966 in São Luís, Maranhão, Brazil. At present, the university includes six departments in various areas of training, including: agricultural and environmental sciences; biology; medicine; humanities; social and exact sciences; and medical technology.
