In the framework of the 2nd All-Russian competition of young entrepreneurs, on June 15-25, took place online defense of projects took place. The team of Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering successfully passed the trial by presenting a multifunctional VR application based on UnrealEngine game engine.
The competition is held by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia with the aim of involving students and young scientists in solving large-scale tasks of economic development.
The team of St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering includes Master’s degree students Angelina Belyayeva, Ivan Krynin, Irina Shelgunova from the Department of Construction Economics and HUI and Omar Shakshak, Master’s degree student at the Department of Information Technology. Associate Professor Timur Ablyazov from the SPbGASU Department of Economics and Management carried out the general scientific supervision.
The VR-application created by SPbGASU Master's degree students is intended for presentation of architectural and design projects. It allows moving in three-dimensional space of the future object. The openness of the system makes it possible to adapt the functionality to the customer's requirements. On the basis of metadata processing from the BIM model, it is possible to evaluate the functionality of an area. Online calculation of facility performance helps to determine the economic potential of implemented technologies and constructive solutions, with the account of the characteristics of a particular region.
Omar Shakshak was responsible for technical implementation of the project. Ivan Krynin positioned the product on the market of innovations in construction. Angelina Belyayeva was responsible for managing the processes of bringing the innovative product to the market. Irina Shelgunova was in charge of the calculation of energy efficiency indicators.
According to the developers, the advantages of their VR application is the high quality and speed of its operation, as well as the possibility of individual approach taking into account local conditions. Thanks to the use of UnrealEngine, the BIM-model attributes don’t get lost. Exporting a BIM-model takes only a few minutes. The use of open-source code provides for refining the product according to the customer's needs. The application is available on any device and does not require the purchase and installation of additional software, which will allow construction companies to use it without extra costs. It becomes especially important in the conditions of mandatory transition of national companies to Russian software.
“We learned about the competition last year from our scientific adviser; he also brought us together. Then we did not take a prize-winning place, but we showed ourselves well in the general ranking and, most importantly, got the skills of presentation and promotion of the project. This is definitely one of the factors that helped us win the qualifying round this year. We hope it will help us in the final in Moscow,” said Angelina Belyayeva.
