In July and August, ETU “LETI” will host English-taught professional summer schools in four areas and Russian language and culture schools. This year, they will be held online for the first time.
Professional summer schools of ETU “LETI” are in line with the priority research and academic areas of the university: Artificial Intelligence, Human-Machine Interface, Portable Medical Systems and Complexes.
The university will host for the first time the Animal-Centered Computing summer school, which aims to introduce and engage students in activities to improve animal health and well-being using information technology, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.
“Originally, this school was supposed to be an offline school, but the current situation around the world has made adjustments. We managed to adapt quickly, and already in July, the international school will take place using distance learning technologies. Almost all world-leading specialists in Animal-Computer Interaction and Animal Behavior will participate in the school. Professors from Russia, the USA, the UK, Germany, Italy, Israel, Brazil will teach the students the new discipline. Among the participants, there will be Alexandre Rossi, the host of the popular throughout Latin America TV show, as well as such professors as Robert Young, Admela Jukan, the head of the organizing committee of the annual international conference on Animal-Computer Interaction Clara Mancini and others. I am sure that this school will attract a lot of attention,” Alexandra Kilina, Head of the Preparatory Department for International Students of ETU “LETI,” said.
The summer school will also attract future IT specialists, who are interested in learning about the new field of application of information technology and learn to work with modern tools in the field of machine learning and data analytics. Students will learn how to develop technological solutions that will improve the health and welfare of animals, ensure better communication between people and their pets, and advance veterinary science. The program includes lectures on animal behavior and tools for its measurement, animal welfare assessment, practical classes on the use of video data and ML tools for animal behavior analysis.

Another “premiere” in the list of summer schools is the Systems for Health Remote Monitoring program, organized by the Department of Bioengineering Systems of ETU “LETI.” More than 60 people have already enrolled in school. The students will study the role of telemedical systems in solving public health problems and methods of developing monitoring systems for patients with cardiovascular and respiratory system diseases. In addition to lectures, there will be a large number of practical classes at the school.
The Biomedical Systems and Technologies summer school has already become one of the most popular short-term educational programs. The course is focused on improving knowledge and developing professional skills in biomedical engineering. Students learn the possibilities of computer analysis of biomedical data, the use of robots, and other modern technologies in rehabilitation and prosthetics. After graduation, students will be able to apply for the English-taught master’s program Systems and Technologies in Digital Healthcare (in the field of Biomedical Engineering).
During the Heritage Science course, students will learn the history of art, the basic principles of restoration, storage and exhibiting of artworks, as well as with the basic physical, chemical, laser and optoelectronic techniques and methods used in this field. The program is based on the unique research and development of ETU “LETI” scientists in the field of laser cleaning and contactless copying of cultural monuments. In 2020, ETU “LETI” will host the first English-taught master’s program in Heritage Science, to which graduates of the school can apply.
International students can also join summer online schools on the Russian language and culture. They can choose from several courses for different language levels, both for beginners and those wishing to improve their language skills.
Summer schools are held in ETU “LETI” for the fourth year in a row and traditionally attract a large number of students. Last year, 86 students from 35 countries took part in them.
Groups of Russian language schools are in the enrollment stage; you can apply to them during July.
