Visit of the Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba to PGUPS

On October 1, 2019, Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, Gustavo Cobreiro Suarez, visited PGUPS. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss further cooperation between Russia and Cuba in the field of higher education and science.

Counselor of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, Gustavo Cobreiro Suarez, is a former rector of the University of Havana and the Havana University of Technology, defended his dissertation at the Russian University of Transport (MIIT) in 1995 at the Department of Path and Track Management. He is also a member of the annual Forum of Rectors of Russian and Ibero-American Universities.

The friendly relations between the University and the Republic of Cuba have been established for more than one year. In March 2010, a delegation of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Cuba, headed by Pedro Luis Ortega Llanos, head of the railway transport directorate, visited the PGUPS for negotiations on cooperation.

In October 2017, Dr. Barbara Carell Fure, executive officer of the Directorate of International Relations of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Cuba, visited PGUPS to discuss issues related to the resumption of training of railway specialists of the Republic of Cuba in PGUPS.

In the period from 1951 to 1990, 162 citizens of the Republic of Cuba (including 16 postgraduate students) received higher engineering education at our university. For the present moment, 7 students from the Republic of Cuba are studying at PGUPS through the Ministry of Education and Science. In the next academic year, another 20 Cuban students are expected to study in here.
